Relief payments for impacted residential and business customers

Financial relief is available for residential and business customers in the United Energy network affected by the prolonged power outages following the severe storm on Friday, 29th October 2021.  The Victorian and Australian Governments have made funding available from the Disaster Recovery Fund, and we are supporting the roll-out of payments to customers.

The Prolonged Power Outage Payment is:

  • $1,680 (inc GST) per week (for up to three weeks)
  • $2,500 (inc GST) per week (for up to three weeks)

Application information for residential customers

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for the Prolonged Power Outage Payment residential customers must:

  • Have a residential electricity account
  • Be an electricity account holder at a residential property that has been without power for 7 days or more as at 12.01am Friday 5 November 2021, as a result of the severe weather event in October on the United Energy network
  • Not applied for or received a Prolonged Power Outage Payment for the same electricity account (NMI).

How to apply

Applications are made online via the link below. Applications close 11:59pm Friday, 3 December 2021.

Please note, the details submitted as part of the application must match the details of the electricity account holder. The electricity account holder is who your electricity bill is addressed to.

You will need to provide:

  • Electricity account holder’s name
  • NMI (National Meter Identifier) which can be found on your electricity bill
  • Contact details
  • Bank account details (BSB and account numbers) so you can receive the payment.

What happens after I apply?

We will review your application to verify you meet  the eligibility criteria and have provided the necessary information.

When will I receive the payment?

Once eligibility is confirmed it will take 5-10 business days for payments to be made. Payments will be made by EFT.

Application information for business customers

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for the Prolonged Power Outage Payment business customers must:

  • Be operating from a location that remained without power as at 12.01am Friday, 5 November 2021 due to the impacts of the severe weather event in October on the United Energy network
  • Have an annual Victorian payroll of $10 million or less in 2019-20 on an ungrouped basis
  • Hold an Australian Business Number (ABN) and have held that ABN at 12.01am Friday, 5 November 2021
  • Be registered with the responsible Federal or State regulator
  • Not already applied for or received a Prolonged Power Outage Payment for the same electricity account (NMI).

Both employing and non-employing businesses are eligible for the payment, including if they work from residential premises.

  • Business’ trading name
  • ABN
  • WorkCover Employer Number (for employing businesses only)
  • Electricity Account Holder Name
  • National Meter Identifier (NMI) which can be found on your electricity bill

  • Bank account details (BSB and account numbers) so you can receive the payment.

What happens after I apply?

Your application will be reviewed by United Energy and the Victorian Government to verify you meet  the eligibility criteria and have provided the necessary information.

When will I receive the payment?

Once eligibility is confirmed it will take 5-10 business days for payments to be made. Payments will be made by EFT.
