Power outages across Melbourne’s South East and the Mornington Peninsula (June 2021)

As at 4pm

United Energy crews have restored power to more than 80,000 homes and businesses following last night’s severe windstorms, however customers are being advised that some areas may not have power restored for a number of days.

Extra crews have been mobilised across Melbourne’s south eastern suburbs and the Mornington Peninsula as restoration efforts continue.

Our emergency team, control centre and field crews have worked through the night to restore power to customers. There has been an incredible amount of damage caused by fallen trees and debris, with our priority continuing to be on the safety of our field staff and the public while restoring power to our customers.

Since daylight, crews have been able to further identify faults and assess the extent of the damage. Repairs are well underway, however in some cases the complexity and size of the work means it will take some days to restore power.

Currently, United Energy is responding to 801 faults and 289 fallen wires. We currently have 4,312 customers off supply.

We do understand how difficult it is to be without power for such a lengthy period, particularly during this cold weather, and we thank customers for their patience and understanding. Our crews are working as safely and as quickly as possible to get power restored.

As crews locate faults and assess the damage, we are continuing to update estimated restoration times on our website, through our contact centre and providing updates to customers via SMS when we have their details.

We would advise customers to assess their own individual circumstances and determine whether they should seek alternative accommodation arrangements.

The community is reminded to be aware of fallen powerlines.

If people do see a fallen powerline, they should always stay well away from them and report them to us immediately on 132 099.

As at 8.30am

United Energy crews are working to restore power to more than 8,615 homes and businesses after last night’s extreme weather caused extensive damage to the electricity network.

Severe winds, with sustained wind gusts between 11pm and 3am of over 100kmh, have brought down trees and branches onto powerlines and caused extensive damage to the power network across Melbourne’s south-eastern and the Mornington Peninsula.

Crews are responding to more than 121 wires down and more than 421 faults.

Customers are reminded to be aware of fallen powerlines. If people do see a fallen powerline, they should always stay well away from them and report them to us immediately on 132 099.

We understand many people are working and studying from home during these latest COVID-19 restrictions so any power outage is inconvenient.

While extra crews are working as safely and quickly as possible to get power back onto homes, the extensive damage means estimated restoration times will be longer than usual, and some customers will be without power until Friday.

We thank customers for their patience and understanding as we continue our repair and restoration work. We will keep them updated on estimated restoration times by text message and also online at www.unitedenergy.com.au
