Negotiated embedded generation connections
Information pack
This information pack applies to embedded generator connections that will follow the connection process regulated by Chapter 5 and Chapter 5A of the National Electricity Rules (NER), excluding those defined as micro-embedded generators.
A number of documents are included as part of this pack, accessible via the links in the drop down list below. Within each drop down, there are two subcategories:
Non-registered connections
Embedded generator connections that will not be registered with the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO).
Registered connections
Embedded generator connections that will be registered with AEMO to trade electricity on the National Energy Market.
To determine which connection type applies to your embedded generation, please refer to UE-PR-2008 Embedded Generation Customer Connection Procedure.
Fees and charges
This publication sets out the fees and charges that may be incurred for an embedded generation connection: UE EG Fees and Charges March 2020
Network Access Standards
The network access standards outline the technical requirements that the embedded generator will have to comply with.
Non-Registered Connections
UE-ST-2008.2 LV EG Network Access Standard
Applicable to LV customers – i.e. customers who are connected to UE’s LV network (< 1kV)
UE-ST-2008.3 HV EG Network Access Standard
Applicable to HV customers – i.e. customers who are connected to UE’s HV network (11kV/22kV/66kV)
Registered Connections
Registered embedded generators are required to comply with the generator performance standards stipulated in Chapter 5 of the National Electricity Rules which is available on the AEMC website.

Testing and Commissioning Requirements
Non-Registered Connections
Please complete and submit the relevant commissioning form to embeddedgeneration@ue.com.au once the system has been installed and tested.
Note: There may be additional testing requirements for HV customers and customers installing non-inverter based generation. These will be negotiated as part of the application process.
UE-FM-5003 IES Commissioning Form
This form is applicable to both HV and LV customers who are only installing inverter based embedded generation.
UE-FM-5004 Non-IES Commissioning Form
This form is applicable to both HV and LV customers who are only installing non-inverter based embedded generation (e.g. diesel generators)
UE-FM-5005 Combined Commissioning Form
This form is applicable to both HV and LV customers who are installing a combination of inverter based embedded generation and non-inverter based embedded generation (e.g. diesel generators).
Registered Connections
The testing and commissioning requirements for registered embedded generators shall be negotiated with UE as part of the application process.
Register of Completed Embedded Generation Projects
As per the National Electricity Rules (NER), United Energy is required to publish a register of completed embedded generation projects every year. This publication contains all embedded generation projects greater than 30kW for the last five years:
