Early Fault Detection devices

This advanced technology is designed to improve power reliability and safety by identifying potential network faults before they become a problem.

Our crews installed 22 Early Fault Detection (EFD) devices across parts of our high voltage network in Rosebud and Dromana to protect some of the most bushfire-prone parts of the Peninsula.

The devices alert our controllers to parts of the network – including powerlines and transformers – that are displaying signs of stress. The devices, arranged in pairs 5km apart, measure signals travelling across powerlines to identify patterns that indicate a likely fault.
