Flexible exports
Victorians love rooftop solar. So many homes and businesses have panels that we have an abundance of energy during the day. All that solar is helping reduce power bills and emissions, but it can also put stress on the network.
Until now, that has meant some solar and battery customers receive low, fixed export limits. This helps to ensure supply quality but restricts the amount of energy that can be exported. Now, we are offering a better option for eligible customers - flexible exports.
How flexible exports works
Flexible exports let eligible homes and businesses export more of their surplus solar. Rather than apply a low static limit, exports are matched to the real-time capacity of the network.
This means customers can export to the limit of their inverter (or a maximum of 10kW) most of the time.
On rare occasions, we may need to reduce the flow of solar power from households to protect the network. Our recent trial showed participants exported freely more than 90% of the time.
Customers that receive a 0kW export limit in their pre-approval can choose a flexible exports connection or 0kW static limit.
