Electricity distributor United Energy has partnered with one of Victoria’s leading surf lifesaving clubs as part of the company’s commitment to community safety.

The five-year deal sees United Energy become the Portsea Surf Life Saving Club’s major sponsor, with a strong alignment with the club’s values of safety, community service, leadership and teamwork.

Safety of community and staff is the number one priority at United Energy, which distributes power to homes and businesses across eastern and south eastern suburbs of Melbourne, along with the Mornington Peninsula.

The partnership includes being the major club partner and Portsea education program sponsor, supporting training for lifesavers on the Peninsula.

United Energy Chief Executive Officer Tim Rourke said the shared focus on safety was why the partnership with the Portsea Surf Life Saving Club made sense.

“In supplying the power to the magnificent new clubhouse in Portsea, we have found that we have a lot in common with the club in terms of our shared commitment to safety, community service and teamwork,” Mr Rourke said.

“The clubhouse forms a centre of excellence for training that is building the capabilities of surf life savers patrolling many Mornington Peninsula beaches every summer.”

“It’s great to see the Nippers back on the beach after a tough 2020 and we’re looking forward to working with the club to help ensure everyone is prepared for a safe and enjoyable summer.”

Portsea Surf Life Saving Club president Matt Mahon said that there was a great fit between the two organisations.

“We are excited by what this partnership will offer to both organisations” Mr Mahon said.

“United Energy is a leading player in the energy market and has identified the Portsea SLSC as a leading organisation protecting the community and developing young people.”

“Once we started discussing partnership opportunities, we realised that there were many shared values, and both had the objective to develop confident and resilient future leaders of our respective organisations.”
