Negotiated embedded generation connections

This information applies to embedded generator connections regulated by Chapter 5 and Chapter 5A of the National Electricity Rules (NER), excluding those defined as micro-embedded generators.

You’ll need to choose the right information from each section depending on your connection type:

  • Chapter 5 connections: Embedded generator connections as per Chapter 5 of the NER.
  • Chapter 5A connections: Embedded generator connections that are automatically exempt from registration (< 5MVA at unity power factor) with the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) as per Chapter 5A of the NER.

To determine which connection type applies to your embedded generation, please refer to the UE-PR-2008 Embedded Generation Customer Connection Procedure.

Network access standards

The network access standards outline the technical requirements that the embedded generator will have to comply with.
Chapter 5 embedded generators are required to comply with the GPS stipulated in Chapter 5 of the National Electricity Rules which is available via the AEMC website.
All documents are available for download in the library below.

Testing and commissioning requirements

Please complete and submit the relevant commissioning form to embeddedgeneration@ue.com.au once the system has been installed and tested. There may be additional testing requirements for HV customers and customers installing non-inverter based generation. These will be negotiated as part of the application process. All documents are available for download in the library below.
Chapter 5 testing and commissioning requirements shall be negotiated with UE and AEMO as part of the application process.

Fees and charges

You can find a document below that sets out the fees and charges that may be incurred for an embedded generation connection. Where network augmentation works are required to accommodate the EG connection, a separate quote will be provided. Additional costs associated with other transmission/distribution networks or AEMO will also be quoted and passed through to the applicant. This is in addition to the application fees and charges listed in the document.

Register of Completed Embedded Generation Projects

As per the National Electricity Rules (NER), United Energy is required to publish a register of completed embedded generation projects every year. Download the United Energy register of completed embedded generation projects.
