About the Summer Saver program
Summer Saver runs annually from 1 December until 31 March. It's invite only program and eligible customers receive a letter inviting them to participate.
Participants are rewarded for temporarily reducing their electricity use when energy demand peaks during the summer. It’s our way of saying thank-you for helping to manage tricky times on the network.
Once registered, we let participants know when we think energy demand will be high. It won’t be often - normally during peak periods - and during these times we’ll invite them via SMS or email to reduce their power use. These energy saving ‘events’ are usually three hours long, between the hours of 3pm-8pm.
Reducing power could be through simple actions like turning off non-essential appliances or pre-cooling rooms and closing them off during the event period.
Participants can choose not to participate in a specific event if it isn't convenient, but if they do we'll reward them for every kilowatt-hour they save during these peak times.
